The London Lions Enter The Basketball Champions League

The London Lions have earned a berth in the Basketball Champions League, Qualifying Rounds for the 2020-21 season, representing the city of London in European basketball for the first time since the turn of the century.

"Just...imagine bringing a team from (for example) Israel, Greece, or Lithuania to London on Wednesday night, with the place jumping and two teams battling it out. Then to think one of those teams is a London team representing, with British players that come from less than a mile away, this is an amazing thing for British Basketball," said head coach Vince Macaulay, capturing the team's excitement on qualifying.

The London Lions are a member of the British Basketball League (BBL) and won the league championship in 2019. Founded in 1977 as the Hemel Hempstead Lakers, the team moved to London and rebranded in 2013. The Lions have made the BBL playoffs every year since their founding and won the inaugural British Basketball All Stars trophy in 2017.
